Patterson done

Fourth inning was rough for big John. Took him 30 pitches to get through. Only gave up one run, and that was a solo homer to Chris Shelton that got up into the jet stream that blows out to right field here on most afternoons. Not saying it wouldn't have been a homer in normal conditions, but it's possible.

So his final line: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, and the number that would be a bit worrisome, 72 pitches, 38 for strikes.

Again, haven't talked to John yet. It'll be interesting to see what he says.

Joel Hanrahan on in relief. In theory, he's still in the running for a rotation spot. Gave up an unearned run in the top of the fifth. And after five, it's Nationals 2, Tigers 2.

So, Barry - after a month of watching the Nats - any puzzling features that come with Manny Acta? Frank used to make me just scratch my head - specifically in his use of pitchers. Is Spring Training not a good place to detect such things?

With Patterson's injury history, please don't use headlines like "Patterson done"!
