Oh my God! Where are my pants?

Just kidding. 34-32s are on, and have been on all day, as best I can remember.

Some notes from Phils-Rox: Cole Hamels needed 40 pitches to get through the second inning. He allowed three hits, three walks and three runs -- also managing to retire three batters. The Phillies phell in a 3-0 hole. (If the Phillies remain in this postseason long, I phear you will see an embarrassing number of phake spellings in the newspaper.)

Hamels has now worked six innings. He has needed 63 pitches to get through the other phive phrames (sorry, I can't help it). In those five innings, he has allowed no hts and no walks, striking out five -- for a total of seven strikeouts on the day.

Through four innings, Colorado's Jeff Francis had allowed one hit -- Hamels's single to left in the htird. He had six strikeouts in those four frames, and it took until the fifth batter -- and his 24th pitch -- for the Phillies to hit the ball phair. Then, in the fifth, Francis allowed back-to-back homers to Aaron Rowand and Pat Burrell (the second a Citizens Bank Park special, into the first row in left), and the Phillies were within 3-2. He allowed a hit and a walk in that inning as well before escaping.

Now, Francis has pitched a 1-2-3 sixth against Utley, Howard and Rowand. It's 3-2 Rockies going to the phinal phrames. Good stuff.

Thanks, Barry. We thought maybe the pants thing was a tribute to the Phanatic.

"Just kidding. 34-32s are on, and have been on all day, as best I can remember."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You should consider wearing 34-32 sized PJs to bed. Saves waking up in denim, khaki, or whatever other flavor of legwear you were wearing the day before. That is all.
Thanks for the gratuitous pant-size, btw. Between that, Sheinin, and natsfan1a simultaneously (in a previous thread) asking the Rocks to "bring the lumber," we're off to a stellar start to the postseason. Or at least a pants/their contents-focused start.
Posted by: faNATic | October 3, 2007 5:06 PM
Oh, and Hamels gets pulled after 6 and 2/3. Pretty solid recovery after that shaky second frame.
Posted by: faNATic | October 3, 2007 5:07 PM
Hey, faNATic, the lumber comment preceded the sans pants posting (I think). Funny, though!
Paging Dr. Freud to the white courtesy phone.
Hello Herr Doktor? About the lumber comment? Okay, yes, right, thank you.
Ahem, Dr. Freud says that sometimes a bat is just a bat. :)
All in fun, 1a.
Returning to the topic du jour, Holliday just hit a ball that grew wings like yet another kind of bat.
Homer to left center off Tom Gordon, 4-2 Rockies.
Posted by: faNATic | October 3, 2007 5:25 PM
That's more like it, Holliday!
Posted by: natsfan1a | October 3, 2007 5:25 PM
I know, faNATic, and it *was* funny!
Hey, we must have been typing at the same time on the Holliday HR to lead off the 8th...
Does anyone know historically how winning Game 1 of the LDSs relates to winning the series? I thought at one point it was pretty heavily weighted towards Game 1 winners winning the series overall.
Posted by: MKevin | October 3, 2007 5:29 PM
Wow... Rollins with a great play. So far I like the TBS coverage. Odd to see David Aldridge there though. Who's next? Dick Vitale?
Posted by: MKevin | October 3, 2007 5:31 PM
The Rollins play sounded good over the radio...
Posted by: natsfan1a | October 3, 2007 5:33 PM
I'm liking the radio team (Gary Thorne and Steve Phillips) pretty well so far.
Posted by: natsfan1a | October 3, 2007 5:33 PM
Amazingly, bottom of the 8th and the departed Mr. Hamels STILL has more hits today than the combination of Rollins, Victorino, Utley & Howard !
Posted by: one of Barry's Babes | October 3, 2007 5:41 PM
4-2 Rockies through 8, NatsNut (if you're still at work).
Posted by: natsfan1a | October 3, 2007 5:44 PM
36-34s (No, that isnt the score over at CBP, its my pant size)
45-34.
And I'm still a free agent at the end of this year!
Posted by: Ray King | October 3, 2007 5:52 PM
I'll never tell...
Posted by: Dmitri Young | October 3, 2007 5:53 PM
34-58
Posted by: Jon Rauch | October 3, 2007 5:55 PM
Speaking of Dmitri, why don't we keep Nook Logan in center and then have Dmitri play left? Meat can be responsible for the ten feet around him and Logan can play everything else. Maybe he'll solve this mysterious breaking problem you all keep talking about when he has to run all the way over to the foul line.
Posted by: Section 506 (Before moving) | October 3, 2007 5:57 PM
No matter their pants size, the pitchers definitely seem to have the upper hand today. 22 strikeouts and counting by both teams... Most impressive performance: Chase Utley, 0-for-4 with 4 Ks. Ryan Howard gives good competition with 0-for-4 with 3Ks.
Posted by: faNATic | October 3, 2007 5:57 PM
You could follow the 506(bm) plan... Then shade Nook all the way over to the right field side.
That way, there's never a question as to which way to break...
Manny: "Every time the ball is hit, just run towards left as fast as you can, Nook."
Woop woop. Sure, the Curse of Jamey Carroll has hurt the last couple seasons, but I'll take just about anyone over the Phillies.
Posted by: Atlanta | October 3, 2007 6:04 PM
and assume the Sheinin pants position...
36-29. Yes, I used to catch (and pitch a little bit, neither well).
I hung up the tools eons ago, but the ignorance is taking longer to shake off.
Posted by: Hendo | October 3, 2007 6:08 PM
Darn right, Atlanta. I also like the Rocks because they have the biggest concentration of former Nats within the organization and because they have a smaller payroll (gooooo underdogs!!). Also, I once indexed a book about one of their minor league affiliates, the Sky Sox, and I was rooting for them by the end of it.
I can see the headlines now:
Phillies Phall to Colorado Phranchise
Posted by: natsfan1a | October 3, 2007 6:39 PM
Looks like Barry threw down the gauntlet to Shiner -- reveal the pants size, or go without...
Posted by: Anonymous | October 3, 2007 6:40 PM
Say, Journal Staffers, will the recent Washington Post Live episode with Acta be put on the site at some point? I wasn't able to locate it but would love to see it.
Yup sure glad we are not wasting our time discussing WPost Sports Editors policies as they demonstrated when Barry took a day off (perhaps a big issue with Barry leaving next year)....look what we would have missed.
Go Rox! Gotta love the underdog with the smallest payroll and homegrown talent.
TBS coverage is solid, game on ESPN radio was solid too.
Those are Part 1 and Part 2, BTW, not mirrors of a single link. So watch 'em both. Also be prepared for an annoying and jarring Comcast whooshy thing in between each question.
Now back to your regularly scheduled snark.
Manny cleans up very nicely! That Comcast visual/sound effect is definitely jarring.
Posted by: natsfan1a | October 4, 2007 8:38 AM
"Manny cleans up very nicely!"
Not so sure about the color pairing in his shirt-tie-jacket combo, but they did look clean at least. Definitely, though, Manny's wardrobe choices were better than those of the buzz-cut Asian guy who was one of the interviewers. I guess he must be one of those WaPo guys with a wardrobe and personality made for print rather than TV. Those print guys need to wake up and realize that there's more to dressing yourself well than knowing what your pants size is...
Posted by: Section 419 | October 4, 2007 9:46 AM
Manny's wife must not have had input on the combo, but I thought it worked for him. ;) As for the other fellas, I'm not crazy about the untucked dress shirt look myself.
On a more substantive note, I like Manny's policy of not getting on his guys in public (unlike, say, Ozzie Guillen).
