Estrada throws, hits; Redding feeling OK

Johnny Estrada feels like he has made strides in recent days, and he was excited to take batting practice with the rest of the guys this morning. "I was sick of hitting in the cage," he said. He's not sure of an exact timetable, and he said he also understands why the club would want to have him play in minor league games before they roll him into the season.

Tim Redding stretched with his teammates this morning, but otherwise has the day off. He was examined by a doctor -- no MRI or anything that drastic -- and was told there's nothing serious. "There's still, obviously, a little bulge there, but thedoctor looked at it and he didn't see anything major," Redding said.

He'll likely play catch tomorrow -- when he was supposed to have a bullpen session. If that goes well, he could throw a light bullpen session on Wednesday. "As of right now, the doctor feels I can probably make my start on Friday," he said.

John Patterson: Deal with Texas is done.

Tigers lineup:
Edgar Renteria -- 6
Placido Polanco -- 4
Gary Sheffield -- DH
Magglio Ordonez -- 9
Miguel Cabrera -- 5 (Question: If you ar epaying a guy $152.3 million, and he is going to hit fifth in your lineup, do you have a good lineup?)
Carlos Guillen -- 6
Ivan Rodriguez -- 2
Marcus Thames -- 7
Brandon Inge -- 8

Nate Robertson -- 1

Overcast today, and the wind is blowing out to center -- hard. That will be a factor for Jason Bergmann against this rather treacherous Detroit lineup.

Enjoy your feast Miggy, since you won't see us when it counts. However, feel free to go nuts on the O's this season...

Has everyone seen Jacqueline Dupree's photos from the GW game at Nats Park? This is gonna be great!

Hope you went to church and called your mama yesterday Bergmann - you're going to need all the karma/help possible with that breeze

MLB has Baez playing LF. How come Harris got pulled?

Posted by: lowcountry | March 24, 2008 01:21 PM

as much as most everyone has been down on FLop for his attitude, lack of hitting and poor defense, Guzzie just picked up his 6th error of the Spring. Plus, he's struggling at the plate the past week or so. Now, I like Guzzie, but his performance lately on the field is eerily similar to FLop's.

lowcountry: I wonder if he's been dealt to the Dodgers. I've read rumors that they really want him.

MLB Gameday is wrong. Willie Harris is still in the game.

lowcountry-

Hmm..... Good catch. I like a subtle trade rumor as much as anybody.

Darn. That didn't last long.

Thanks, Barry. I thought maybe Panera was particularly crowded today and he had been delayed.

He he. Classic sequence of comments right there.

Good to hear Patterson got picked up by Texas. I always felt his Nats teammates let him down two years ago. He'd pitch six or seven strong innings and get a 2-1 loss or a 1-1 no-decision hung on him, then they'd give Livan Hernandez seven runs to work with the next day. Shoulda sued the team for nonsupport...

I know this is not a Tiger's blog, but holy smokes, what a lineup. Something to aspire to.

The Tigers look Yankee-riffic. Good enough to get a lot of press and lose in October.

I can't tell from here, but it looks in general like Bergmann's doing a decent job holding his own against what we admit is a sweet lineup. (Although our defense isn't exactly making that easy.) Can anyone closer to the game confirm or deny that?

I'll take 2 ERs in 5 2/3 from Bergmann against that line-up (with a strong wind blowing out). Nice job Jason!
