Estrada throws, hits; Redding feeling OK
Johnny Estrada feels like he has made strides in recent days, and he was excited to take batting practice with the rest of the guys this morning. "I was sick of hitting in the cage," he said. He's not sure of an exact timetable, and he said he also understands why the club would want to have him play in minor league games before they roll him into the season.
Tim Redding stretched with his teammates this morning, but otherwise has the day off. He was examined by a doctor -- no MRI or anything that drastic -- and was told there's nothing serious. "There's still, obviously, a little bulge there, but thedoctor looked at it and he didn't see anything major," Redding said.
He'll likely play catch tomorrow -- when he was supposed to have a bullpen session. If that goes well, he could throw a light bullpen session on Wednesday. "As of right now, the doctor feels I can probably make my start on Friday," he said.
NASA Day at Space Coast Stadium. There is a currently a dude dressed in an astronaut's outfit getting ready to throw the ceremonial first pitch.
John Patterson: Deal with Texas is done.

Overcast today, and the wind is blowing out to center -- hard. That will be a factor for Jason Bergmann against this rather treacherous Detroit lineup.

as much as most everyone has been down on FLop for his attitude, lack of hitting and poor defense, Guzzie just picked up his 6th error of the Spring. Plus, he's struggling at the plate the past week or so. Now, I like Guzzie, but his performance lately on the field is eerily similar to FLop's.

Good to hear Patterson got picked up by Texas. I always felt his Nats teammates let him down two years ago. He'd pitch six or seven strong innings and get a 2-1 loss or a 1-1 no-decision hung on him, then they'd give Livan Hernandez seven runs to work with the next day. Shoulda sued the team for nonsupport...

I can't tell from here, but it looks in general like Bergmann's doing a decent job holding his own against what we admit is a sweet lineup. (Although our defense isn't exactly making that easy.) Can anyone closer to the game confirm or deny that?
