Minor league notes and injuries
Before we get to Bill Gluvna's minor league report, I wanted to provide a little news on Harrisburg OF Justin Maxwell, who's now on the 7-day DL with a right wrist injury that will keep him disabled far longer than that. One month to six weeks, Harrisburg is saying. My man Geoff Morrow, who covers the Sens for the Harrisburg paper, said Maxwell injured his wrist diving for a ball in right field early last week. He started two subsequent games, insisting the wrist felt good enough to play, but a check-up indicated the injury was more serious than Maxwell believed.
Here's a story from the Patriot-News.

After Jesus's little hit last night, please tell me PLD is staying on the disabled list for the foreseeable future (or is on the serious trade block for, ohh, I dunno, a bag of balls?)...
Posted by: Juan-John | May 29, 2008 4:14 PM
I heard that Bowden was interested in trading PLD for some balls the Reds had back in 1997 that showed a lot of promise, but never got much playing time.

What ever happened to Brandon Watson? Why do guys like him and Casto never make the transition to the majors?

Let's go Nats!

What's the story behind Johnny Holliday and the DL Du Jour in the booth?
I know Sutton has been ill; did they fire Carpenter?

I heard that it was a "toolsy" bag of balls

Chico's Grand Slam Gamer is #7 in the top 10, even though we're in the top of the 4th of a new game. Anyone viewing it had to go to some trouble - there was no link from the home page like there was for the higher-rated articles. Despite this, it was #3 this morning, which means that the baseball crowd gets its gamer 1st thing and moves on.

Milledge steals 2d and 3rd and then is sacrificed in by Dukes! 1-0 on smallball! And Ledesma has thrown 77 pitches after 3 1/2.

"PAPER CLIP-PARD" is just awful...

no one could pry the toolsy 1997 balls from marge schott's cold dead hands.

is it "give the dl'ed players some air time" day on masn?

Eject him from the game!

Lannan seems to be having a Shawn Hill flashback loss of command sequence this inning. C'mon John!
Posted by: leetee1955 | May 29, 2008 4:51 PM
Could have been much, much worse

Man, the Lerners are so cheap, the Nats can't buy a base hit.

2 hits through 6 innings?! U-G-L-Y!

wmp couldn't hit meredith with a tennis racket.
Posted by: natsscribe | May 29, 2008 5:28 PM
dukes and milledge have been running well lately.
Posted by: 231 | May 29, 2008 5:29 PM
If you're gonna pinch hit for Lannan, do you have to do it with Langerhaaans? Might as well let the pitcher hit.
Posted by: Bob L. Head | May 29, 2008 5:33 PM
listen im no genius but even a blind man could tell you if a team is getting 2-hit all the time by a bunch of no names and has a collective batting average of say .225, maybe its time to find a new hittin coach!! ya think????
Posted by: dk | May 29, 2008 5:33 PM
Way to go, Langerhans! At least Lannan won't be saddled with a beautiful loss.
Posted by: leetee1955 | May 29, 2008 5:33 PM
Then again, I could be wrong about that.
Posted by: Bob L. Head | May 29, 2008 5:34 PM
you were sayin', bob l.?
Posted by: natsscribe | May 29, 2008 5:34 PM
Please tell me that Manny is going to put Langerhans in LF now.
Posted by: leetee1955 | May 29, 2008 5:36 PM
Yeah Ryan! Nice catch!
Posted by: BSG | May 29, 2008 5:53 PM
After yet another thoroughly un-productive day by WMP, Langerhans BETTER be in LF!
PLD actually sounds pretty good in the broadcast booth. Any way he could STAY there the rest of the season? Maybe with another team?
Posted by: Juan-John | May 29, 2008 5:53 PM
Langerhans in left - nice switch, Letee!
Posted by: flynnie | May 29, 2008 5:53 PM
GREAT defensive play by Langerhans to rob Kouzmanoff of a HR!
Posted by: leetee1955 | May 29, 2008 5:53 PM
Langerhans is responsible for 2 runs - rbi of Dukes and robbed Kouzmanoff's home run with an astonishing, "above-the-rim"[Dave's words] leap. Without Langerhans, this game is 3-1. With him, it's 2-2.
Posted by: flynnie | May 29, 2008 5:58 PM
Great...Manning blows it...
Posted by: BSG | May 29, 2008 6:00 PM
Damn. Manning again. 5-2.
Posted by: flynnie | May 29, 2008 6:00 PM
i guess gerut proved that HR's can be hit to RF at petco.
Posted by: natsscribe | May 29, 2008 6:01 PM
Manning should be charged with a gak.
Posted by: leetee1955 | May 29, 2008 6:02 PM
Bye Bye Charlie ...

Why is Manning up while Schroder is riding a bus down in the minors?
Posted by: Nats Fan in KC | May 29, 2008 6:02 PM
you almost miss joey eischen in these situations. almost.
Posted by: natsscribe | May 29, 2008 6:03 PM
If WMP was still in LF instead of Langerhans, imagine where this game would be now. The Padres would have at least 5 runs in and there would still be nobody out...
