Mock down to Columbus

Well, here's your roster move.

The Washington Nationals optioned pitcher Garrett Mock, promoted on July 22 as a relief pitcher. He will be optioned back to Class AAA Columbus, where he'll presumably rejoin the starting rotation. There had been some speculation (among media types, only, to be clear) that the Nationals might release Odalis Perez, tonight's starter, and replace him with Mock.

But that didn't happen. As it stands, Mock's demotion coincides with the transaction that sends Emilio Bonifacio from the Clippers to the Nats.

Since coming here as a reliever, Mock pitched in three games -- a total of 3-1/3 scoreless innings.
