Just Imagine This In D.C.

This morning on The Tony Kornheiser Show, starring David Burd, we heard about a German town's rather novel attempt to improve road safety. Never mind that it actually sounds quite dangerous, though word is owners of body repair shops are raising their beer steins in celebration.

Fry This

If you thought you'd heard it all when it comes to fried food, think again. This morning on The Tony Kornheiser Show, starring David Burd, we learned that the fried imagination knows no bounds, at least in the Lone Star state. Heart disease never tasted so good.

Michael Vick to Play Again?

We talked at length this morning about Michael Vick's agreement to plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges. Under terms of this deal, the Atlanta Falcons quarterback faces up to 18 months in prison.

His attorney told the AP that Vick is paying a high price for allowing old friends to influence his behavior, but that his client takes full responsibility and wants to "get his life back on track."

Get his life back. You know what that means - possibly quarterbacking in the NFL after he gets out of prison.

Do you think Michael Vick should be allowed to return football in the future? Would you support a team that would hire Vick to play?

Bad Bosses

Today we spoke with Robert Foxx, Deputy Director of Working America about his organization's "Bad Bosses" contest.

Basically, people can submit their Bad Boss stories on Working America's website, and the person with the worst story wins a free one-week vacation.

Robert shared a couple tales - like the worker who was told not to take personal time for her chemo treatments because it was a bad time for the company, the boss who would call staffers while he was on the commode or the boss who knowing hired a person who was stalking one of his employees.

Do you have a bad boss story you want to share with us? We'd love to hear them!

"War Czar" on draft see-saw

Not even the White House likes the idea, but Bush's top military adviser on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan says the draft is always an option to consider. The "war czar" Lt. General Douglas Lute admits in an interview on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" that the military was struggling to recruit over the early parts of the summer, though they surpassed their July recruiting goals and pulled in about 10,000 new soldiers. The military says the public's lack of support towards the Middle East wars has made the recruiting environment difficult.

Still, the Pentagon and White House insist a draft is not being seriously considered at this time. In part, because the of the politics, but also because it is believed the volunteer units could be compromised. Soliders who do not want to be there will degrade the complicated and professional nature of the force, says the military. Even those in Congress such as Charles Wrangle (D-NY) bring up the draft as a way to remind the general public that, though our daily lives are unaffected, we are, in fact, still at war.

How do you feel about the prospects of a draft, especially if the miliary begins to thin? Do you think the bush administration should look further into a draft, or the opposite; that maybe it shouldn't even be an option to consider?

A Different Kind Of Stowaway

This morning on The Tony Kornheiser Show, starring David Burd, we learned that though you can't take a bottle of water on a plane, monkeys may be a different story! Like anyone else, this little guy was just ticked off he didn't get upgraded to first-class.

Not so Sweet Caroline

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama looks as though he's garnered some unlikely support. The 17-year-old daughter of Rudy Giuliani, the former NYC Mayor and a Presidential candidate frontrunner, appears to be an Obama fan. Caroline Giuliani had joined the group "Barack Obama (One Million Strong for Barack)" on her Facebook profile, which could be viewed by any of the 40,000+ members of the Harvard University and Trinity School networks to which she belongs. The online magazine Slate emailed Caroline to confirm this, and as of 6:01 a.m. Monday morning, the young Giuliani had left the online group. Caroline still lists her political views as liberal. Obama is also a Harvard Gradute school alum.

It is no secret that Rudy Giuliani has a strained relationship with his two children from his second marriage, but some say that dragging children into the public sphere is crossing the line into an invasion of privacy. However, the information posted was allowed to be made public to those within her school networks, and therefore is fair game for the media. After all, this comes after a recent report on Chelsea Clinton and plenty of press over the years on the troubles of President Bush's daughters.

Number 17 And Counting...

This morning on The Tony Kornheiser Show, starring David Burd, we heard about an Arkansas couple that's just welcomed their seventeenth child into the world. When you've changed an estimated 90,000 diapers, then you'll know what having such a big family is like.

Stockpiling For The Revolution

This morning on The Tony Kornheiser Show, starring David Burd, we heard the tale (or is it tail?) of a squirrel with a sweet tooth. Along with eating well, the animals are clearly trying to keep their minds alert by amusing themselves.

A Lunch Date With Armani?

This morning on The Tony Kornheiser Show, starring David Burd, we heard a story about a foot soldier in the animal revolution who managed to find a way to freedom. It could be he's headed to Montgomery County, Maryland, to liberate another well-known capuchin monkey.
