Randle El's replacement

Steelers just moved up to replace Antwaan Randle El, who signed with the Skins. Shows the diverse ways these teams operate. Skins would rather spend in free agency on a player in essence developed elsewhere, while the Steelers often let they top free agents walk and replace them through the draft. They really are very different franchises. Not saying one is right and one is wrong, but the Steelers have been an elite team for a long, long time, and the Skins have just returned to respectability under Joe Gibbs.

I think your post is spot on. Why wait 3 years for a guy to develop when you can sign someone who can contribute right away? Granted when the Skins' make mistakes they cost more and do long-term cap damage, but FA's are worth the risk if they have a good chance of translating into immediate wins.
