Seahawks Not Relenting Even Though Alexander Wants to Play

The Seattle Seahawks plan to keep tailback Shaun Alexander sidelined for Sunday night's game at Chicago even after public comments by Alexander that his ailing foot might have healed sufficiently for him to play.

Seahawks Coach Mike Holmgren announced Monday that Alexander, the reigning league most valuable player, would be on the shelf for a few weeks after tests revealed a small crack in a non-weight-bearing bone in his foot. Alexander subsequently indicated that his foot had stopped bothering him and he was willing to consider playing this weekend, but team officials are intent upon having Alexander heal fully before he plays again.

Maurice Morris is scheduled to start in Alexander's place against the Bears.
