Week 4 Picks

Local Teams

Jaguars at Redskins
At least for now, it's still possible to view the Redskins as a good team that simply started out playing badly for two games.
Pick: Redskins

Chargers at Ravens
The Chargers have to fly cross-country at the end of a tumultuous week in which safety Terrence Kiel was arrested on drug charges at the team's practice facility.
Pick: Ravens

Lock of the Week

Colts at Jets
Maybe the Jets aren't as bad as expected. But they're not in the Colts' class.
Pick: Colts

Upset of the Week

49ers at Chiefs
The 49ers aren't dreadful any more, and maybe the Chiefs are when they're minus Trent Green.
Pick: 49ers

Games of the Week

Cowboys at Titans
Even if the Cowboys aren't at their best after this week's Terrell Owens furor, the Titans aren't capable enough to take advantage.
Pick: Cowboys

Seahawks at Bears (Sunday night)
The Seahawks must go on the road to face a terrific defense without the reigning league MVP.
Pick: Bears

Patriots at Bengals
Having Tom Brady always gives the Patriots a chance. But his wide receivers are sub-NFL-caliber, and the Bengals are simply better.
Pick: Bengals

Other Games

Packers at Eagles (Monday night)
Brett Favre has been superb the past two weeks, but his team is still not good enough to go on the road and beat a solid opponent.
Pick: Eagles

Cardinals at Falcons
Dennis Green toyed with the idea of switching to Matt Leinart at QB this week, but didn't. Next week could be the week.
Pick: Falcons

Dolphins at Texans
Playing the Texans is a cure-all for struggling teams.
Pick: Dolphins

Vikings at Bills
The Vikings played the Bears tough, and now get to bounce back.
Pick: Vikings

Saints at Panthers
Picking the Saints is tempting after their stirring triumph Monday night. They won at Carolina last season. But the Panthers have Steve Smith back. They're at home and they can't afford to fall to 1-3.
Pick: Panthers

Browns at Raiders
What an eyesore. Does one team really have to win?
Pick: Browns

Lions at Rams
The Rams got very, very lucky in Arizona last weekend, but now they're back at home.
Pick: Rams

Record
Last Week: 9-5
Season: 29-17

Mark,

Do you really think the Redskins offense will score enough points against that Jacksonville defense that walloped the Cowboys, Steelers and Colts? The front seven of Jacksonville will not allow the Redskins to move the chains using the running game along with short passes. The only way the Colts beat them was with a punt return and throwing some bombs down the middle of the field, hardly something that plays to Brunell's strength. As a fan, I hope I'm wrong, but this could be a painful game for the Redskins offense andplaying in Fed Ex is not the advantage RFK was!

Go Browns!!!!!!!

you could be 14-0 but picked the skins over the Jags??? oh well, I guess 13-1 aint that bad either

I dunno. I don't think calling the 49ers to beat a team without a quarterback is an "upset." The REAL upset possibilities are for the non-favored Bills over the Vikings or the Texans over the Dolphins. The Bills' offense showed some real promise last week, as did the Texans when they put 24 points against the Colts.

Sorry, lock of the week is the Jags.

Yeah, I'd say Texans over Dolphins is the smart upset pick

Jason, the Redskins pick over the Jags has to be the homer pick of the week throughout the NFL. The only things worse is for a Houston paper to pick the Texans to beat anybody.
I hope I am wrong and we are talking about the Redskins in the Super Bowl on Monday, but I just don't see this happening.

The lock of the week is definitely not the Jags. Though the defense held Manning and the Colts to 21 points (including a special teams TD), the offense only scored 14 against a suspect Indy defense that is averaging giving up a whopping 161.6 yds/game on the ground.

Yet the Jags couldn't seal the deal despite rushing for 191 yards because of missed scoring opportunities. Their D is playing like men possessed. Their offense, however, isn't.

Wow, those are teh most HOMER picks ever.

Jags 35 - Redskins 10

And Balt over San Diego...ummm, San Diego's defense is at LEAST as good as Baltimore and rested and the San Diego offense is twice as good

San Diego 17 - Balt 10
