Painful Day for Super Bowl QBs

The two quarterbacks who participated in last season's Super Bowl got hurt Sunday, but Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck probably will be sidelined longer than Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger.

Hasselbeck is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam today on the knee injury he suffered during Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The early indications were that Hasselbeck likely suffered a sprained ligament and will be sidelined for two to four weeks.

Backup Seneca Wallace took over for Hasselbeck on Sunday. The Seahawks already are playing without tailback Shaun Alexander, the reigning league most valuable player who's sidelined because of a fractured bone in his foot. The Seahawks have a record of 4-2 but the curse of the Super Bowl loser could be alive and well. The previous five teams to lose the Super Bowl had losing records and missed the playoffs the following season.

Roethlisberger was knocked from Sunday's overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons because of a head injury. Backup Charlie Batch took over. Steelers Coach Bill Cowher did not say after the game whether Roethlisberger had suffered a concussion, and his playing status this week is unclear. It was yet another setback in a year that has been full of them for Roethlisberger, who was injured in an offseason motorcycle accident and missed the opening game of the season after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. The Steelers' record dropped to 2-4 with Sunday's defeat.
