Giants Have Tiebreaker Edge if They Can Beat Redskins

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.--The New York Giants can all but clinch the second wild-card playoff berth in the NFC if they beat the Washington Redskins on Saturday night at FedEx Field because they have an advantage over the Green Bay Packers in the strength of victory tiebreaker.

A tie between several NFC teams with 8-8 records would come down to the Giants and the Packers and the strength of victory tiebreaker. So far, the Giants have beaten seven teams that have a combined record of 46-59 for a winning percentage of .438. The Packers have beaten five teams that have a combined record of 33-72 (they've beaten the Lions and Vikings twice each, so those clubs' records are counted twice) for a winning percentage of .314.

If the Packers beat the Bears, their opponents' combined record would be 46-75 for a winning percentage of .380.

Those numbers will change further with the results of other games this weekend, but probably not enough for the Packers to overtake the Giants.
