Patriots Sign Sauerbrun

The New England Patriots signed punter Todd Sauerbrun today.

Sauerbrun was released by the Denver Broncos earlier this season after serving a four-game suspension by the NFL for testing positive for ephedra use. Previously, Sauerbrun was reported to be among the Carolina Panthers players who had steroid prescriptions filled by a South Carolina physician. But he never was suspended by the league for a positive steroid test while with the Panthers.

Sauerbrun replaces the injured Ken Walter as the Patriots' punter. The club worked out several other punters this week, including Sean Landeta.
