Carroll Keeping Quiet on Chargers' Search

USC Coach Pete Carroll is staying mum about his possible involvement in the San Diego Chargers' head coaching search.

Carroll issued a statement through the school Tuesday indicating he had nothing to say on the subject and declined to comment when reporters approached him on campus.

Carroll has rejected repeated overtures from NFL teams in recent years but interviewed with the Miami Dolphins last month. The Chargers have begun interviewing other candidates but several executives around the league say they expect the club to make a serious run at luring Carroll back to the NFL.

Sorry Mark but you're "executives" are morons or liars!!! The Chargers owe Marty 4 mil and you expect them to give Carroll 8 mil plus the total control he's looking for?!!? Forget it! They want a CHEAP asst! Hopefully anybody but Rex Ryan. The Ravens can't afford to lose him.

Yeah. Why would Pete Carroll leave his perfect job at USC where he has total control and can choose his own staff to go to work under megalomaniac AJ Smith who wants input on everything - maybe even calling plays! HA!

With the NCAA about to levy humongous recruiting violation penalties on the Trojans, Carroll is wise to dodge the bullet ... He'll win a Super Bowl with the Chargers' arsenal of offense

Only one owner can meet Carroll's salaries demands ... our own fast-buck Danny! Bye-bye, Joe ... your choice, the NASCAR circuit or the front porch at Sunrise Assisted Living

A.J. Smith has developed an inflated sense of himself in light of the Giants deal swapping Rivers and Merriman for Eli "the lesser" Manning. This is a serious mark against Carrol making the drive south, he doesn't want the nosey buttinski.

I don't yet think Carrol did anything wrong regarding the recruiting misteps. I could be mistaken but Pete seems too smart to get his nose in the mud.

Carrol will return to the NFL on HIS terms. I think this includes money, control, and i think location. Carrol will come back to the NFL when NFL returns to Los Angeles. San Diego is not close enough in my mind, and yet one has to ask Carrol: he can run a good ship and that's what many owners in the NFL are looking for...that and wining.

Carroll sucked when he coached in the NFL before and even with the talent on the current Chargers team he will choke again. He should stay with college ball where he shows he can be successful. The Chargers would of been much better off firing Marty earlier and going with Cam Cameron as that would of established some continuity. Rodgriguez, in my opinion, a very good defensive coach, would be a bonus for the local Hispanic community in San Diego and a good move for the team (as long as he can find a talented offensive co-ordinator). I would not rule out old Norv getting his foot back in the head coaching door there though as he is from that area- scary thought. In the long run- who cares as long as our Skins can put together a winning season!

FYI: hman Most of my friends in the Hispanic community in San Diego are more interested in beisbol and soccer than pro football. In Mexican soccer you have to run constantly the whole game. Most of the Chargers wouldn't last 10 minutes

That's a ridiculous statement having no basis in fact. Carroll's beat the heck out of schools on the recruiting trail and done it cleanly. Lots of jealous football fans out there.
