Chiefs Keep Huard
The Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Damon Huard agreed to a three-year contract extension today, keeping him off the unrestricted free agent market.
Huard began this past season as the Chiefs' backup to Trent Green but thrived as the starter when Green was sidelined by a concussion. He was the NFL's second-rated passer. But Coach Herman Edwards went back to Green when the veteran was healthy and the Chiefs were ousted from the playoffs when their offense stalled in a first-round loss at Indianapolis.
"Damon had an excellent year in 2006 and contributed directly to getting our team to the playoffs," Chiefs President Carl Peterson said in a written statement released by the team. "Damon is an excellent veteran player and an outstanding person. We're delighted to have him under contract."
The Chiefs went 5-3 in Huard's eight starts.
