Colts Tag Freeney

The Indianapolis Colts placed their franchise player tag on defensive end Dwight Freeney today.

The Colts all but eliminate the chance of losing Freeney as a free agent and will have to pay him a salary of $8.644 million next season if he retains the franchise designation.

Freeney is the fourth player league-wide to be given the franchise player tag this offseason following Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Justin Smith, Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs and New England Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel.
