Lions Tag Redding as Franchise Deadline Looms

Today is the final day for NFL teams to apply the franchise tag to players.

The Detroit Lions put their franchise player tag on defensive tackle Cory Redding on Wednesday.

He'll have a salary of $6.775 million next season if he plays under the franchise designation.

Redding was the sixth player league-wide to receive the franchise designation this offseason. With the salary cap taking a big jump for a second straight year, teams have the cap space to afford to use the tag.
