Bucs Want Plummer But Does Plummer Want to Play?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reached a tentative trade agreement with the Denver Broncos today to obtain quarterback Jake Plummer from Denver but will have to convince Plummer not to retire to complete the deal, an NFL source said.
Plummer lost the starting job in Denver to rookie Jay Cutler this past season and the Broncos shopped him to the Buccaneers and Houston Texans. The Broncos likely would receive a fourth-round draft choice from the Buccaneers and Plummer would be the front-runner to be the starter in Tampa ahead of Chris Simms, the source said.
But there were reports in Denver-area newspapers in recent weeks that Plummer had told teammates he was seriously considering retirement and now the Buccaneers must convince him to report to the team and play.
