J. Lewis to Browns, Ravens Zeroing In on McGahee

Tailback Jamal Lewis, released by the Baltimore Ravens last week, agreed to a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns and the Ravens seem intent on replacing him by trading for the Buffalo Bills' Willis McGahee.

The Ravens released Lewis a week ago but indicated they were interested in re-signing him. The two sides could not agree on a new contract, however, and Lewis made his departure official by visiting the Browns today and settling on a deal with them.

Lewis ran for 7,801 yards in seven seasons with the Ravens, including 2,066 yards in 2003.

The Bills have been listening to trade offers for McGahee and the Ravens appear to have emerged as the leading suitor. One NFL source said tonight he expected the Ravens to trade a draft pick or picks for McGahee and sign him to a new contract. The Ravens gave themselves some salary cap flexibility today by releasing veteran guard Edwin Mulitalo.

It has been written and said a million times but if you can't beat him, sign him. It is hard to fully judge this acquisition without knowing the plan for the draft but if Jamal has even a little gas left in the tank it should work out well for the Browns. One thing is more likely now though - Reuben is a goner. How he gained 1,000 yards in 2005 is one of life's great mysteries.

Go Browns!!!
