Packers Chasing R. Moss

The Green Bay Packers have emerged as the NFL team most likely to trade for Oakland Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss.

Several NFL sources said Thursday and this morning they believe the Packers have the best chance to end up with Moss if the Raiders indeed trade him. The Raiders desperately need a quarterback and the Packers' trade package apparently would include Aaron Rodgers, the former first-round draft choice who's yet to see significant playing time in Green Bay because Brett Favre refuses to retire.

Moss apparently is willing to restructure his contract to accommodate the deal. That's a necessity because he's due to make $21 million over the next two seasons.

A report Thursday by the Boston Herald said the trade was imminent but Packers officials denied that.

The New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers also have been said to be interested. The Patriots' interest might have ended with their recent signing of free agent wideout Donte Stallworth, however.

Well, while I'd like to see the Raiders trade Moss for the GB #1 picks for the next decade, I think trading him for next year's number 1 might be a fair trade. He's clearly a first round caliber player, but 16 might be too high. GB should keep Rodgers -- since he's had time to develop, he might also be too high to shed.

Alternative: a 2nd round and a 6th round pick this year.

This rumor is absurd. If Aaron Rodgers is in this deal the Raiders must be offering a LOT of additonal draft picks. Aaron Rodgers is the heir apparent - the packers don't have a back-up quarterback if he leaves. I can't believe Mark would even print such insanity.

Packers fans have been hearing the Moss crap for weeks now and nothing I see in the media about it surprises me anymore. I doubt TT would be so hard up for a WR that he trades the QB he spent a #1 for but one never knows.
They both are unknowns in the NFL, Rogers never having started and Moss being the slacker that he has been in the past plus not really having someone to throw him the ball while in Oakland. I don't have a problem with Moss be acquired but please don't give much for him.

If trading for Moss is so cheap, why don't the skins go after him. Especially if Moss is going to restructure?

What, are you crazy!? Moss is worth John Jefferson, James Lofton and Donald Driver combined.

For good measure throw in Boyd Dowler and Max McGee.

All wrong. That's what you get for repeating the Boston Herald.
