Browns Intensifying Pursuit of T. Green
The Cleveland Browns reportedly are launching contract negotiations with Trent Green and his agent as a possible precursor to a trade for the Kansas City Chiefs' veteran quarterback.
The Chiefs are attempting to trade Green after re-signing fellow quarterback Damon Huard to go with youngster Brodie Croyle. The Chiefs' trade efforts so far have been focused on the Miami Dolphins, who want Green to go with Daunte Culpepper and Cleo Lemon. Green and his agent, Jim Steiner, apparently have agreed to a revised contract with the Dolphins but the two clubs have not been able to work out a trade. A source said at the recent league meetings that the Chiefs were seeking a second-round draft choice for Green, far more than the Dolphins were willing to surrender and probably far more than the Chiefs could get from any other team.
In Cleveland, Green would be paired with young quarterbacks Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson.
