Chiefs' Asking Price for T. Green Still High

The Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs intensified trade talks over the weekend regarding Chiefs quarterback Trent Green. Several media outlets in South Florida reported that the trade was imminent, and there was speculation that the Dolphins might release quarterback Daunte Culpepper after trading a mid- to late-round draft pick to the Chiefs for Green.

But Chiefs President Carl Peterson told the Kansas City Star that the club still is seeking a high-round pick for Green, noting that the Dolphins received second- and seventh-round choices when they traded wide receiver Wes Welker to the New England Patriots.

"I told Randy [Mueller, the Dolphins' general manager] that they made a great trade with New England," Peterson told the newspaper. "They got for what we would consider a third wide receiver and kick return specialist second- and seventh-round draft picks. I told him that I think a starting quarterback is worth that.

"Now we need to work toward something that's fair. We'll talk again this week. Whether it gets done before the draft or not, I can't say. It may happen this week, or it may not happen until after the draft."
