Dolphins Reportedly Close to Completing T. Green Trade, Could Release Culpepper
According to reports by several South Florida news outlets, the Miami Dolphins are close to completing a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs for veteran quarterback Trent Green.
The deal reportedly could lead the Dolphins to release quarterback Daunte Culpepper.
Trade talks between the Dolphins and Chiefs regarding Green had been deadlocked because the Chiefs apparently had been seeking a second-round draft choice. The Chiefs now seem willing to settle for less, and Green and the Dolphins will complete a new contract to reduce the $7.2 million salary that Green was to have next season under the terms of his existing deal with Kansas City. The Chiefs have been shopping Green since re-signing Damon Huard to go with young quarterback Brodie Croyle.
Green apparently would vie with Cleo Lemon for the starting job in Miami. The Dolphins already released quarterback Joey Harrington this offseason, and now they might release Culpepper. The Dolphins traded for Culpepper last offseason but he never made his way back fully from a knee injury, and he wasn't ready to participate in new coach Cam Cameron's minicamp this weekend.
