Dolphins Tell Culpepper They Plan to Trade Him
Miami Dolphins officials reportedly told quarterback Daunte Culpepper today that they plan to trade him.
Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller and Coach Cam Cameron delivered the news to Culpepper in a meeting this morning, Culpepper wrote in an e-mail to several media outlets.
The meeting came a day after the Dolphins agreed to trade a fifth-round draft choice to the Kansas City Chiefs for veteran quarterback Trent Green. The pick can become a fourth-rounder if Green reaches certain statistical benchmarks with the Dolphins.
"They finally notified me that they are going in a different direction at the quarterback position," Culpepper wrote. "They would like to trade me in order to get something for me."
Culpepper told reporters in his e-mail that he doesn't want to be traded.
"They have told me throughout the offseason that I am under contract to the Dolphins," Culpepper wrote. "Therefore, it will be up to them to either keep me under contract or release me. In the meantime, I will continue to work out at the facility with the team and prepare myself for training camp, wherever it may be."
The Dolphins, then under the direction of former coach Nick Saban, obtained Culpepper in a trade last year with the Minnesota Vikings. But he never fully recovered from a major knee injury suffered while with the Vikings and had a highly disappointing season.
