B. Walsh Dies
Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh died today.
Walsh, who coached the San Francisco 49ers to three Super Bowl titles in the 1980s, was 75. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004.
Walsh coached the 49ers for 10 seasons and established himself as one of the most successful and influential coaches in the history of the sport. He had a professorial manner and choreographed an offensive system predicated on short, quick-hitting passes that eventually became known as the West Coast offense.
Few did more to mold the playing style and on-field look of the pro game as it neared the turn of the century.
