Alstott Reportedly Set to Leave Football, Buccaneers Behind
Tampa Bay Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott reportedly will announce today that he's retiring.
The Buccaneers scheduled a news conference for this afternoon and several news outlets reported that Alstott will retire. The Orlando Sentinel reported on its Web site that Alstott plans to sit out the season and then make a final decision about retirement.
Alstott, 33, has missed the last three days of Buccaneers' practices. He suffered a career-threatening neck injury in 2003 but returned to play in 2004. His hard-charging playing style made him one of the most popular players in franchise history.

Although not a Tampa Bay fan, I am a fan of Mike Alstott. In these days of Terrell Owens, Pacman Jones and Mike Vick, here's a guy who came to work every day, did the dirty work and did it extremely well and I've never heard him offer up a complaint.
Deliver me from these constant whiners, thugs and poor citizens and give me more Mike Alstotts. The NFL and the world would be a better place.
