Buccaneers, Broncos Reportedly Seeking About $7 Million From Retired Quarterback Plummer

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos reportedly have filed a grievance against retired quarterback Jake Plummer, seeking to force him to repay a prorated portion of signing bonus money.

The St. Petersburg Times reported that the teams are attempting to force Plummer to return about $7 million.

The Broncos traded Plummer to the Buccaneers in March after he was supplanted as the starter in Denver last season by Jay Cutler. Plummer said he would retire rather than play in Tampa, but Buccaneers officials nevertheless completed the trade and made failed attempts to try to convince him to report to the team.

This is really stupid. If a guy retires, why should he pay back bonus money? Secondly, why does Tampa want the bonus money? He never played for them and they want to collect on money he earned. I'm not a Jake Plummer fan at all. But he should be able to retire when he wants to.

Is it Jake Plummer's fault that Tampa didn't listen when he said, " I'm retiring, don't trade for me"? Did they think Chuckie, er, John Gruden was really that persuasive? Why should he have to give them back money when THEY made a bad deal?

He should pay part of it back because he signed a contract that stated he would play football for X amount of years. The bonus should be pro-rated and he should be forced to pay part of it back.....Sizzle Chest.
