L. Johnson Agrees to New Contract With Chiefs to End Holdout

Tailback Larry Johnson ended his holdout by agreeing today to a five-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Johnson, according to an NFL source, agreed to a five-year, $43.2 million extension that includes $19 million in guaranteed money. The extension takes effect after the one season that remained on his current contract and gives him a six-year deal worth about $45 million.

The new deal runs through the 2012 season.

Johnson set an NFL record with 416 carries last season and had refused to report to training camp until getting a new contract. It was thought that he was seeking a deal close to that of the San Diego Chargers' LaDainian Tomlinson, who has a contract that includes $21 million in guaranteed money.

Highway robbery. KC must have really been playing hardball. The guaranteed money is good but contrat should be worth around 55 mil. C portis got 50mil. This is also bad for KC if he goes down hard this season, they still owe him 19mil WOW! it say the new contract will start after this season.
