Bucs Keep Four Quarterbacks on Roster, At Least for Now
The league-wide trend is recent years has been, increasingly, for teams to keep only two quarterbacks on their 53-man rosters instead of the traditional three, freeing up a spot for a player who might be more useful on game days than a third-string quarterback.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bucking the trend, with four quarterbacks on their roster.
There had been speculation that the club might release former starter Chris Simms, who has continued to struggle in the aftermath of undergoing emergency surgery because of the ruptured spleen that he suffered in a game last season. But Coach Jon Gruden kept Simms on the roster along with Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown and Bruce Gradkowski.
It seems doubtful, however, that the Buccaneers will be able to retain all four quarterbacks too far into the season.
