J. Russell Should be Practicing With the Raiders By Midweek

Rookie quarterback JaMarcus Russell's representatives were back to negotiating with the Oakland Raiders today as the two sides tried to complete a deal for the still-unsigned top overall selection in April's NFL draft.

The sides made progress in negotiations Friday and Saturday and hoped to finish a contract agreement in time for Russell to practice with the Raiders by midweek. Russell's contract likely will include about $31 million in guaranteed money.

It's unlikely that he'll play much this season after missing all of training camp and the preseason in his contract dispute. The Raiders signed Daunte Culpepper when it became clear that Russell's negotiations might drag on, but he was beaten out by Josh McCown for the club's starting quarterback job.
