Raiders' Starting Quarterback Job Going to McCown as Russell Negotiations Drag On
There are indications that Josh McCown will be named the Oakland Raiders' starting quarterback.
Two NFL sources said they expect that, but Raiders Coach Lane Kiffin isn't announcing his quarterback decision yet. The Raiders open the regular season Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
McCown and Daunte Culpepper were competing for the job. Andrew Walter was eliminated from consideration during the preseason, and the Raiders continue to await the arrival of rookie quarterback JaMarcus Russell.
A relative and adviser to Russell told USA Today that he expects a deal to be completed soon between the Raiders and the still-unsigned top overall choice in the NFL draft. But one person familiar with the negotiations said Wednesday he didn't think an agreement was imminent yet.
