Already Shorthanded 49ers Offense Loses Left Tackle, Too

The San Francisco 49ers will be without left tackle Jonas Jennings for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Jennings was excused from Thursday's practice because of what Coach Mike Nolan termed a personal issue. The 49ers did not provide further details and did not indicate when Jennings is scheduled to rejoin the team.

Adam Snyder is to start at left tackle against the Ravens. He made 10 starts at the position the previous two seasons. The club's offense already was to be without quarterback Alex Smith because of a shoulder injury and tight end Vernon Davis because of an ailing knee.

The 49ers still aren't certain how long it will take Smith to return from a third-degree separation of his right shoulder. He and team officials have maintained that surgery is not necessary. The 49ers have a bye next week, and they and Smith seem hopeful that he could try to resume throwing soon after that. Trent Dilfer has taken over as the starter.
