T. Dilfer to Start for Niners Against Ravens

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith is to miss this weekend's game against the Baltimore Ravens because of the separated right shoulder that he suffered during Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Trent Dilfer is to start against his former team in place of Smith.

But 49ers Coach Mike Nolan told reporters today that Smith won't have to undergo surgery and indicated it's possible he could return to the lineup after the bye week that follows the Ravens game.

Nothing would be sweeter than to see Dilfer put up a big W on Billick and the purple parakeets
