Bad Ankle Seems to be Affecting P. Burress's Production

New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was unusually quiet in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, with only four catches for 24 yards. Part of it was the Giants' desire to try to exploit the matchup of tight end Jeremy Shockey working against Cowboys safety Roy Williams. They did: Shockey had a dozen catches.

But part of it also was Burress's bad ankle. He's been playing all season on a sprained ankle, and has been highly productive while doing it. Many weeks, he barely practices. But the condition of the ankle seems to be worsening. Burress has only six catches for 38 yards and no touchdowns in the last two games after amassing 35 catches for 550 yards and eight touchdowns in the Giants' first seven games.
