Injured Right Elbow, Separated Left Shoulder Put Favre's Streak in Jeopardy
IRVING, Tex.--Brett Favre's streak of 269 straight starts, including the playoffs, is in jeopardy.
The Green Bay Packers not only lost the battle for NFC supremacy to the Dallas Cowboys here Thursday night, 37-27. They also may have lost their quarterback.
Favre suffered an injured right elbow and a separated left shoulder on a second-quarter hit by blitzing Cowboys cornerback Nathan Jones.
Favre said after the game that he'd lost feeling in two fingers on his right hand after the play, and still was experiencing tingling.
The Packers have a long layoff before playing their next game a week from Sunday. Both Favre and Coach Mike McCarthy said they're not ruling out Favre being ready to play. But Favre admitted he was uncertain about that, even after he returned last season from a similar elbow injury to play a week later.
The good news for the Packers on Thursday was that backup Aaron Rodgers played well enough to keep the Packers in the game. He threw a touchdown pass and rallied the Packers from a 27-10 deficit back to within 27-24. The Packers couldn't finish the deal, in large part because Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had another big game with four touchdown passes. The Packers were left hoping that they'll face the Cowboys again in the playoffs.
And that they'll have Favre at quarterback the next time they play.

1) Al Harris was robbed of a pick, the Packers were robbed of a possible route-inducing, game-changing play on the Cowboys' first drive. Everyone knows I'm right.
2) While that very well could have/should have been pass interference on Tramon Williams, the first ref ruled incidental contact. A good 15 sec. later, ref #2 said it was pass interference. ???!!!??? Also, was the ball catchable?
3) Favre was the one who buckled under the big-game pressure, succumbing to the need to throw deep, often to a double-cover WR. On that flea-flicker, Jennings was WIDE open dragging across the middle. Brett played a brief, horrible game, and Rodgers actually gave us a better chance to win, since he played the ball-control, west coast passing game that mostly got us to this point.
4) Ugh.

Buckled under the big-game pressure was right. I noticed it prior to their first play. The Dallas defense was not ready and clearly out of position, but Bret the veteran Favre stood there and waited until the defense got into position when he could have run a quick play and took advantage of the moment.

5)I knew as soon as Woodson wasnt playing, we were in trouble. What I didnt know was the coaches would change the way the defense played just because of his absence. My main gripe - on 3rd & 19, why was our best DB, Al Harris, relegated to never getting more than 5 yds off the line of scrimmage? He covered nobody, released T.O. to safeties who can hit, but not cover. Especially Bigby.
6)Ryan Grant continues to pleasantly surprise, but what was w/ all the pitches? I understand them, but at the same time, so many of them cheapen the play-action aspect, since we barely ever handed it off.
7) There was virtually NO pass-rush, which has helped mask deficiencies in the secondary. The loss of KGB contributed to it, but also the D-linemen need to be coached a little better on how to rush when there's a blitz on. They have to rush to engage the blocker(S!!) rather than beat their man, so it can free the LBs up.
8) *sigh*

9)Also, especially in light of Al Harris' by-the-rules penalty for spiking the ball, why wasnt T.O.'s popcorn celebration a penalty? While I heartily disagree w/ the No Fun League's ban on these kinda things, it was a "prop" for sure, and Chad Johnson got in trouble for the video camera. You mean to tell me that dude was actually just chillin by the field w/ a full thing o' popcorn? My arse.

The first quarter killed us..!!Why we got away from our usual dink and dunk passes is beyond me.Hopefully he's alright, but I was actually happuy to see brett go outta the game.Rodgers was a pleasant surprise.Definetely feel better about him today than yesterday.Looking forward to the rematchon Jan. 22nd. Hopefully we'll be full strength and draw a much better officiating crew. That was pathetic!!

He looked like the Brett Favre of the past 2 years. The interception throwing Brett Favre. When the spotlight was on him, he played like a rookie. It was unblievable how he disgarded the successful plays from their first drive in favor of throwing long and no where close to his own players. Maybe they need to give the youngster more playing time and put Brett in a Marc Brunell role.
