R. Williams Reinstated

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has reinstated Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams after a suspension that lasted more than a year and a half.

A source said the Dolphins were informed this morning of Goodell's decision.

Williams applied for reinstatement Oct. 1. He was suspended in April 2006 for violating the league's substance abuse policy for a fourth time. That one-year suspension was extended when Williams reportedly tested positive for marijuana in April.

The Dolphins have not indicated whether they will allow Williams, a former Heisman Trophy winner in college and NFL rushing champion, to rejoin the team. Coach Cam Cameron has been noncommittal on the issue, saying the Dolphins would make the decision if Williams was reinstated. The winless Dolphins do have a need at running back with Ronnie Brown sidelined for the season because of a knee injury.

Williams returned to the Dolphins in the 2005 season as a backup to Brown after former coach Nick Saban repaired the organization's relationship with Williams. He had retired abruptly before the 2004 season, when the team was coached by Dave Wannstedt. Williams played in the Canadian Football League last year.

A team typically is given a two-week roster exemption when a suspended player is reinstated.

two weeks or so ago, i woulda begged the packers' brass to push a trade for him to help us here in the short term, but while he's not necessarily spectacular, ryan grant's running "style" apparently meshes really well w/ the zone blocking mccarthy has forged ahead with

that being said, i hope he goes to a contender of some sort, lets add some more intrigue to the league, maaaaaaaan
