Merriman's Knee Injury to Take Several Weeks to Heal

San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman is to be sidelined for a few weeks because of a sprained knee.

Coach Norv Turner said the injury isn't season-ending but could take a "couple of weeks" to heal. It's possible that Merriman won't play again until the postseason.

Merriman was hurt during Sunday's overtime triumph over the Tennessee Titans. Merriman said teammates told him that Titans players hurt him intentionally on orders from Coach Jeff Fisher because Merriman had knocked Tennessee quarterback Vince Young from the game. Fisher denied that. The Chargers sent tapes of the play on which Merriman was hurt to the league for review.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers also suffered a sprained knee during the game. The injury is less severe than Merriman's, and there's a chance that Rivers won't miss any games.
