D. Green, Monk, Grimm Among Hall of Fame Finalists
Former Washington Redskins teammates Darrell Green, Art Monk and Russ Grimm were among the 15 modern era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced today.
Green and Cris Carter made the list of finalists in their first year of Hall of Fame eligibility. Four to seven enshrinees will be elected by the media members who serve as selectors during a Feb. 2 meeting in Phoenix. Also under consideration are seniors committee nominees Emmitt Thomas and Marshall Goldberg.
The other modern era finalists are former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue and former players Fred Dean, Richard Dent, Randy Gradishar, Ray Guy, Bob Kuechenberg, Randall McDaniel, Andre Reed, Derrick Thomas, Andre Tippett and Gary Zimmerman.

Wouldn't be nice if they all went in together!

At one point, Drew Pearson complained that the Cowboys had more Super Bowls than Hall of Famers. Well, the last time I looked, the same can be said for the Gibbs I era Redskins. Green should be a slam dunk, except with the pinheads who have kept Monk out all these years, I no longer think there is any such thing as a slam dunk. Green, Monk and Grimm are all very deserving, and their induction this year would go a long way toward righting a wrong.

How does Mark Maske handicap the finalist this year?

Well said, jaypem. Monk's absence from the Hall, in light of recent inductees, makes it all the more mind-boggling in when you look at his stats as compared to those currently in the Hall. Like you, I believe Green should go in as a first-time nominee, but there is no logic when it comes to these guys who are doing the voting.

In my eyes, the hall is a joke until Monk is included.
And if the Hogs were the greatest Oline of all time (although these pats are pushing them), why are does the hall not induct any of these Hogs.
I'm not saying all of them, but Jacoby and Grimm should be in HANDS down.
Stupid Hall

Hi Mark Maske,
I am a life long Redskins fan---I don't see an upside to the new coach of the Redskins being anyone other than Greg Williams--I enjoy watching you on Washington Post Live--you really know your stuff concerning the NFL--Keep up the good work--Larry F. Kirkman

Well, there won't be any of the traditional arguments made against Monk to keep Green out of the HOF. He made plays in big games to decide championships, performed at a top level far longer than anyone in recent NFL history and made the requisite number of pro bowls.
