Dungy to Ponder Coaching Future After Season
Indianapolis Colts Coach Tony Dungy hasn't hidden the fact in recent years that he doesn't intend to be a lifelong football coach and he plans to walk away from the sport sometime in the not-too-distant future.
He said today that he will reconsider his coaching future again after this season in discussions with Colts owner Jim Irsay and club president Bill Polian.
"I'll sit down with my wife and talk it through and then talk to Jim and Bill, like I do every year," Dungy said at a news conference.
Dungy, 52, is under contract to the Colts through the 2009 season. He considered retiring after each of the previous two seasons.
The defending Super Bowl champions host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday in an AFC semifinal.

I am a long time Redskins fan. What about Jim Caldwell as the next head coach. offensive minded, develops quarterbacks. and is mentored by Tony Dungy. Dan has a history of hiring coaching combinations that consist of a strong offensive mind and a strong defensive mind. Example:Steve Spurrier/Marvin Lewis, Marty S/Ray Rhodes, Joe Gibbs/Gregg Williams.
How about Jim Caldwell / Jim Schwartz
Greg.

Tony may very well be gone after 2007, especially if the Colts are able to get back to the Super Bowl. He doesn't have much if anything left to prove to anyone and like Joe Gibbs values his family life.
