Even if Rivers Starts, Can He Finish?
FOXBOROUGH, Mass.--The San Diego Chargers still haven't made a final decision about the playing status of quarterback Philip Rivers for today's AFC title game at Gillette Stadium.
One person familiar with the Chargers' thinking just said his guess is that Rivers will convince the team's coaches to allow him to start the game. Rivers suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee during last Sunday's triumph at Indianapolis and practiced little during the week.
The question, the person said, will be how long Rivers will be able to play even if he does start.
Backup Billy Volek played the fourth quarter against the Colts last weekend and would take over today if Rivers is unable to play.
