Holmgren Staying With Seahawks
Mike Holmgren is staying as coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
Holmgren, 59, has contemplated retirement regularly in recent years, but is holding off again. He informed team officials of his decision today, according to an NFL source. A formal announcement is expected later in the day.
He has spent 16 seasons as an NFL head coach, seven with the Green Bay Packers and nine with the Seahawks. He has reached three Super Bowls as a head coach, two with Green Bay and one with Seattle, and won one with the Packers.
Seahawks secondary coach Jim Mora, the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, is viewed as the likely successor to Holmgren when Holmgren does quit. Mora withdrew from consideration last week as a coaching candidate for the Washington Redskins.
Holmgren has one season remaining on his contract.
Holmgren's decision comes a day after another Super Bowl-winning coach, Tony Dungy, pushed off retirement to announce he's staying with the Indianapolis Colts.
