Chiefs Tag Sack Leader J. Allen

The Kansas City Chiefs placed their franchise player tag on defensive end Jared Allen.

The move all but keeps Allen off the unrestricted free agent market and gives him a salary of $8.879 million next season if he remains the franchise player. Another team would have to surrender two first-round draft picks to the Chiefs to sign Allen, and the Chiefs would have the right to retain him by matching the contract offer if they'd choose.

Allen had a league-leading 15-1/2 sacks this past season.
