Grossman Stays in Chicago

INDIANAPOLIS--Quarterback Rex Grossman passed up a chance to be an unrestricted free agent and agreed to a one-year contract today to remain with the Chicago Bears.

Grossman was benched by Coach Lovie Smith during the just-completed season but regained the starting job before suffering a season-ending knee injury against the Washington Redskins.

Smith stuck with Grossman as the team's starter during a 2006 season in which the Bears reached the Super Bowl but lost to the Indianapolis Colts, and Smith said here this week he remained hopeful that Grossman can be a successful NFL quarterback.
