S. Hill Staying With Niners to Compete for Starting Job

Quarterback Shaun Hill agreed to a three-year contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers.

The deal reportedly is worth about $6 million, including a $2 million signing bonus. It also includes an additional $5.5 million in possible incentives.

The University of Maryland product began this past season as the club's third-string quarterback but became the starter late in the season because of injuries to Alex Smith and Trent Dilfer. Hill is to compete with Smith, a former top overall selection in the NFL draft, for next season's starting job in training camp.

Good for Shawn! I think Smith will be a good NFL QB, but if you saw Hill in his one season under Friedgen, you know he has the physical talents and mental toughness to play in this league.

That's excellent news for Shawn!! Congrats!

Too bad the Redskins didn't have a coach in place, I'm pretty sure our beloved Skins will need a backup or two! Would've loved to see Hill here!

Smith is a dud, the NFL's version of Kwame Brown. Great opportunity for Shaun Hill, I hope he takes full advantage of it!

don't get to boosted over the few games sean hill did good in, if alex smith is a dud sean hill is like a gus frerotte, one hit wonder...wont last long in frisco with mike martz as the OC...

Come on Kwame Brown, maybe if Shaun Hill had been a first round pick or even drafted for that matter but i believe a much fairer comparison to be michael ruffin.

I think the poster compared Alex Smith to Kwame, not Shaun.

Shaun Hill > Gus Frerotte
