Seahawks Name Mora as Holmgren's Successor in 2009

The Seattle Seahawks made it official today and announced that they'd designated Jim Mora as their head coach for the 2009 season.

He will succeed Mike Holmgren, who previously announced that next season would be his last as the team's coach.

Mora is the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. He spent this past season as the Seahawks' defensive backs coach. Mora interviewed for the Washington Redskins' head coaching job this offseason but withdrew from consideration.

He is the second assistant coach to be officially named his team's head coach-in-waiting this offseason. The Indianapolis Colts gave that designation to quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell, who is to succeed Tony Dungy as the club's head coach whenever Dungy retires.
