Interest in Brunell, Carr on Backup Quarterback Market
Trent Green landed in St. Louis on Monday, but the quarterback carousel continues to spin for veterans in search of jobs as backups. Mark Brunell is scheduled to visit the New Orleans Saints today, and David Carr is to visit the New York Giants.
Brunell had his contract voided by the Washington Redskins, making him a free agent. He reportedly also is drawing interest from the Green Bay Packers as a prospective backup to newly elevated starter Aaron Rodgers. In New Orleans, he would back up Drew Brees. The Saints pursued Trent Green but lost him to the Rams.
The Giants also had been linked to Green as they look for a more reliable backup for Super Bowl-winning starter Eli Manning. Now the champs are considering Carr, the former top overall selection in the NFL draft by the Houston Texans who was released recently by the Carolina Panthers. Giants quarterbacks coach Chris Palmer was the offensive coordinator in Houston when Carr was the Texans' starter.
