Patriots Announce Moss Re-Signing
Wide receiver Randy Moss's deal with the New England Patriots is official.
The three-year, $27 million contract includes $15 million in guaranteed money, most of that in a $12 million signing bonus. It certainly looks like Moss gave the Patriots a discount, given that a less productive wideout like Bernard Berrian got $16 million in guaranteed money as part of a six-year, $42 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings. Or maybe other teams were simply convinced that Moss wouldn't leave New England, or perhaps wary that they'd get the Oakland Raiders version of Moss rather than the Patriots version if they signed him away.
Both Moss and the Patriots confirmed the deal without acknowledging the financial terms.
"I want to take time out to thank all of the fans for their support and for wishing me well in my return to New England," Moss wrote on his Web site. "I'm ready to get back. We have some unfinished business to take care of."
The Patriots announced that they'd re-signed Moss, and Coach Bill Belichick said in a written statement: "What Randy did for our team last year was outstanding. He is one of our most consistent, competitive and team-oriented players and it is undoubtedly a relationship we are excited to continue."
