Steelers Lock Up Roethlisberger With $102 Million Extension
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to an eight-year, $102 million contract extension that runs through the 2015 season.
The deal includes about $36 million in guaranteed money.
"Ben has been an outstanding leader on the field for the Steelers since his rookie year and we are very happy to know that he will be our quarterback for many years to come," team president Art Rooney II said in a written statement released by the Steelers.
Roethlisberger, who turned 26 over the weekend, becomes one of the league's highest-paid players. The guaranteed portion of his deal exceeds the $34.5 million in bonus money in quarterback Peyton Manning's seven-year, $98 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts but falls short of the $37 million in bonuses in the 10-year, $130 million deal of suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

It bout time the rooney open up thier wallet. Over the years they have lost great player do to money. I understand the organization is frugal but enough is enough.

Good for Ben and for the 'Curtain. I hope thats the last time we hear an ACTUAL NFL QB falling short of Michael Vick for a long time.
