A Timely First Round

NEW YORK--The first round was completed in 3 hours 30 minutes, making it the shortest first round since 1990.

The NFL's speed-up effort worked after last year's 6-hour, 8-minute first round.

"I take that as a sign of improvement," Commissioner Roger Goodell said at the podium.

The first-round picks by position:

Quarterback... 2
Running Back... 5
Offensive tackle... 8
Tight End... 1
Wide Receiver... 0

Defensive End... 4
Defensive Tackle... 3
Linebacker... 2
Cornerback... 5
Safety... 1
