Cowboys Balking at Titans' Asking Price for Suspended Cornerback

Dallas Cowboys Coach Wade Phillips declined to comment during the league meeting this week in Palm Beach, Fla., about his team's trade discussions with the Tennessee Titans regarding suspended cornerback Adam (Pacman) Jones.

According to a source familiar with the discussions, the Titans are asking for two draft choices and the Cowboys are offering only one, and the Cowboys are balking at a demand by the Titans that Dallas would refund part of the signing bonus in Jones's contract to Tennessee as part of the deal.

Jones was suspended for all of this past season under the NFL's personal conduct policy and has not been reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell, who said during the league meeting that he would consider Jones's possible reinstatement before training camp. Goodell said he'd told teams that had inquired to the league about Jones's playing status that he was making no commitments about when Jones might be cleared to play again.

However, it is permissible under league rules to trade a suspended player.
