Stover Reportedly Seeking to "Clarify" Position in Letter to ESPN

ESPN has published a letter on its website that it says it received today from Baltimore Ravens kicker Matt Stover.

In it, Stover writes that he wants to "clarify" his e-mail sent to fellow players in recent days, outlining a plan to replace Gene Upshaw as executive director of the NFL Players Association next March.

Stover praises Upshaw's past leadership in the letter and writes that "it is not, and has never been, my intention to 'oust' Gene Upshaw." He writes that he wants to give the players' executive committee the ability "to offer various options" to the player representatives.

However, Stover wrote in his original e-mail that he and other players believed "it is time for a change" and a new executive director should be hired next March.
